After the birth of my first child, I found myself navigating a journey of unexpected challenges – a journey that ignited within me a deep yearning to reclaim my power. Amidst the chaos of caring for a newborn, postpartum depression, sleepless nights, and the overwhelming weight of new responsibilities, I was struck by a sobering reality: While there were abundant resources tailored for expectant mothers, the support network for women post-birth seemed conspicuously sparse. Month after month, as I navigated the exhaustion and overwhelming demands of parenthood, I felt an increasing sense of emptiness. Adding to this challenge, new parenthood unearthed deep-seated childhood traumas, making the journey even more difficult.
I felt alone and isolated. I turned to my cherished yoga practice – a sanctuary that had been a source of strength and tranquility before motherhood. Yet, integrating yoga into my new reality with a newborn proved to be a daunting task. I yearned to reconnect with my body, to rediscover physical and emotional strength, and to carve out moments of solace amidst the chaos.
During this time, the world was engulfed in the turmoil of the pandemic and the awakening prompted by George Floyd's mur*er. Amidst this societal upheaval and my own personal transformation, I found myself drifting further from my essence – losing touch with my creativity, vision, and sense of self.
It became evident that I needed to invest more time in my self-care. I craved a practice that could nurture my mind, rejuvenate my spirit, and empower me to reclaim my inner sovereignty—without demanding the 2 to 4 hours a day I was accustomed to before motherhood. I needed something shorter, yet still deeply satisfying.
I longed for a BIPOC teacher who truly resonated with me, but I couldn't find one. Neither in my local area, which wasn't surprising, nor online.From this profound need arose the program I now offer – born from my own journey, and crafted with the courage to create something transformative amidst life's uncertainties. A 6-day yoga journey that combines physical practice with a workbook filled with inspiration and insights exclusively from BIPOC voices.

As the founder of WATA Movement, formerly Afro Yoga, Dinah brings over a decade of teaching experience, nurturing not only bodies but also spirits. She is more than a teacher; she is a mother, a womanist, a storyteller, and a creative.
